LearnFlow

Experiential learning in the flow of work

OVERVIEW

The future of L&D

Experiential learning is the future of work

Traditional workplace learning and training is expensive to provide, produce and maintain. Generally, most workplace learning is difficult to scale and many struggle to measure real return on investment. Often, learners are required to leave the flow of their work in order to complete training either online or in a workshop. This requires additional time, additional resources and lacks the opportunity for learners to apply their new knowledge in practice.

What if learning happened while doing work? Integrated into your team’s normal workflow? What if you could measure the success

of training in terms of business outcomes? All of this is possible with experiential learning in the flow of work. We call this method, LearnFlow, and it is modeled on experiential learning theory that has been extensively proven through over 50 years of research.

At Northeastern, we believe in experience powered lifelong learning, and we know that humans learn best through doing through hands-on experience and through receiving timely, relevant feedback.

What is LearnFlow?

LearnFlow is a new approach to professional skill development. This approach allows learners to improve their skills by combining training with their actual work, rather than removing someone from their “flow of work” to attend or complete training, LearnFlow uses a learner's real work as learning and facilitates impactful feedback.

HOW IT WORKS

How does LearnFlow work?

Experiential learning is the Learning powered by feedback

LearnFlow is a collection of personal skill development modules that are task-led and wrap around development goals and daily work. The tasks are generally designed to be done in any order based on the work at hand, but could also be structured in a linear progression, if required

The learner can choose to either submit their work immediately or support their understanding with content streams. The submitted work is reviewed in a “feedback loop” in which the learner receives

structured feedback from a certified reviewer, who will be a “near peer” or supervisor/expert. As the learner completes tasks and receives high ratings, they will progress in the development of the related skills, working towards mastery and potentially, credit-bearing microcredentials.

LearnFlow is delivered to learners through a user-friendly and mobile-friendly web-app called Practera that can be integrated into systems that workers already use.

The sooner and hte more often that learning gets applied in real-life
situations, the more likely is to slick,
